Dimapur, Sep. 7 (EMN): An awareness programme on girl child legal week under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) was held at Government Higher Secondary School, Phek, on September 7. The programme was jointly organised by the district administration and district-level centre for women Mahila Shakti Kendra, Phek, in collaboration with Sakhi- One Stop Centre under Social Welfare department and Phek District Legal Services Authority (PDLSA).
Altogether, 450 participants including the target group particularly adolescence girls from Classes VIII-XII of government and private institutions attended the programme.
In a keynote address, T Lemlila Sangtam, SDO (Civil), Phek, highlighted on the importance of girl child legal rights. She also stressed on the alarming declined in girl child sex ratio in Phek district according to 2001- 2011 census.
Role play on “Child sexual abuse” was presented by the students of GHSS Phek.
Vevohulu Chuzho, case worker of Sakhi-One stop Centre, had highlighted on different services available in OSC, while Ketubu, DCPO Phek, spoke on child protection services in the district.
Kenienuo Swuro spoke on legal aspects on child rights and protection. She also stressed on Juvenile Justice Act, POCSO Act and procedure of filing FIR. Veposelu Naroh, district coordinator of DLCW, MSK Phek, also spoke on the occasion, while greeting was shared by Kedaye Thong, principal of GHSS Phek.
Vilenuo Kapu, women welfare officer of DLCW MSK Phek, chaired the programme and concluded with distribution of IEC materials.
