Awareness drive on gender-based violence held in Wokha
DIMAPUR — The Wokha district administration, along with the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) and One Stop Centre under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative, held an awareness programme on gender-based violence and sexual harassment in the workplace.
The event was organised to commemorate International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence, according to a DIPR report.
It was held at the DC conference hall in Wokha on November 25 and centred on the theme ‘Unite! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls’.
In her keynote address, EAC and nodal officer for Mission Shakti, Wokha, Luchui Fitu, emphasised the various laws and acts enacted in order to prevent and safeguard women from various types of crimes and sexual harassment at different places.
She also enlightened them to be aware of their rights and encouraged them to voice out and fight for their rights to avoid being victims of crimes.
On the occasion, Dr. Wonchano E Enny, DCM, DHEW, gave a brief introduction to Mission Shakti and Wokha Saathi, while Sothungo Murry, assistant sub-inspector, cybercell, SP Office, Wokha, gave a PowerPoint presentation about sexual harassment at workplaces and cyber crime.
The event was attended by representatives from Lotha Eloe Hoho, various churches, and women employees from all head offices across the Wokha district.
