The Assam Valley Baptist Mission (AVBM) is a common Baptist Christian venture initiated by about 28 Baptist churches mostly independent churches located in the district of Jorhat, Sivasagar and Golaghat and bordering with Nagaland in the year 2005. The mission under Nakachari and Mariani have around 40 churches and 4000 believers. Aftermath the celebration of golden jubilee of Nakachari Ao Baptist Church in 1996, the church embarked on a mission to help nurture the sick Baptist churches. With this view, Nakachari Ao Baptist Church installed a pastor on January 9, 2000, who was taught at Impur Bible School, worked as an evangelist under Sibsagar Baptist Association (1985-94), as a pastor in Betbari Baptist church (1995-99). Nakachari Ao Baptist church gainfully used his services in nurturing and connecting the surrounding churches thereby succeeded in bringing forth this platform of like-minded churches who understood the vision of Lord’s wishes. Nakachari Ao Baptist Church took initiative to mobilise and form the mission in Jorhat region. To start with, the Deacon board decided to invite like-minded churches and organised a general meeting. On July 31, 2005, leaders of 28 churches founded a platform of “Baptist Mission” at Nakachari Ao Baptist Church. Later, on January 24, 2006, through a general council meeting, the congregation unanimously named this common platform as “Assam Valley Baptist Mission.” Today it has a total of 52 constituent churches.
