Dimapur, Nov. 19 (EMN): In connection with the Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise, an all-Nagaland drill on earthquake and landslide drill, to be conducted on November 21, the organising officials of the programme met on November 19 in the Longleng deputy conference’s office.
Deputy Commissioner of Longleng M Shayung Phom presided over the meeting, updates stated.
The government publicity agency the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) gave updates to the media on Tuesday informing about the meeting.
The deputy commissioner informed that the departments that are found absent during the table talk exercise and drill will be reported to the chief secretary. Phom directed the departments to mandatorily participate in the Nepex.
The extra additional commissioner for headquarters Robi Sangtam gave a presentation about the overall incident response system and the role and responsibilities of the incident response team, which comprises representatives from every department, the IPR stated.
The official was stated to have recalled that the drill that was conducted during the past two years was “very successful” but expressed hope that this year’s event will be better ‘with the active participation of the government officers.’
Sangtam asserted that the main purpose of the exercise was to educate and spread awareness among the communities and different agencies about how to establish mechanisms for effective response to any emergencies.
The goal of the Nepex is to make Nagaland a ‘safer and resilient society’ because the state is perceived to be vulnerable to many natural emergencies, the IPR quoted him as having told the officials in the meeting.
Among the officials who spoke at the meeting included the police superintendent of Longleng, the F company commander of the 44th Assam Rifles at Longleng and the additional deputy commissioner of Longleng.
Booklets on the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority were also distributed to the members, the IPR stated.
Mokokchung DC advises
The district administration of Mokokchung has issued a circular informing the district about the state-wide drill that is scheduled to be conducted on November 21, updates stated.
The Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise is to be conducted under the aegis of Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority.
In this connection, the district establishment has informed that the event is only an exercise and ‘is not a warning of any impending disaster,’ updates stated. The administration has urged the public not to panic but to cooperate with the authorities for smooth conduct of the drill.
Further, the public are requested to not spread rumours which may cause fear, the updates stated.
