Diphu, Sep. 11 (EMN):
President of All Party Hills Leaders Conference (APHLC) became the target of attack at a rally for opposing the peace accord by BJP, East Karbi Anglong

The APHLC had opposed the tripartite Peace Accord signed by six armed groups on September 4 in Delhi and said that it had diluted the 6th Schedule of the Constitution of India.

BJP MP from Diphu, Horensing Bey said that the president of APHLC, Jones Ingti Kathar had ‘no touch’ with the Karbis.

“No community has opposed the peace accord. Only one person who has not done anything for Karbi Anglong has opposed it. A person who have no base or roots in Karbi and a self appointed know it all who thought nothing of our progress is opposing it. The full fledged University will not benefit JI Kathar, but the students will benefit from it. The parents have to dip into their resources for the studies of their wards but when the university comes up they no longer will have to do so, he said.

Referring to the 10 open category member of autonomous council (MAC) seats in Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) as per the Peace Accord, MP Bey said, “APLHC is stuck on the 10 open category seats in the Peace Agreement. As of now the 26 elected MAC seats in present KAAC is in the open category with four nominated by the Governor, in the Peace Accord there is 34 reserved ST elected MACs with 10 in the open category and 6 will be nominated by the Governor, which is better?”

Referring to Taralangso which is proposed to be made into a cultural centre in accord, the MP said, “JI Kathar have no relation with Karbi culture and he do not want that Taralangso should become the centre of culture. It will become the cultural centre not only in Assam but in India and he does not want that..”

Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang while addressing the rally stressed on peace for development.

“We want to take along all community in maintaining peace. When there is peace, development will take place. For the sake of peace, we, the Executive Members (of KAAC), MLAs and other leaders have met the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, several times and requested that an agreement should be reached. For the sake of peace in Karbi Anglong the Peace Accord has been signed. If we have to develop the nook and cranny across Karbi Anglong peace will have to prevail.”

Further attacking the APHLC, the CEM Ronghang said that its president JI Kathar was ‘self-appointed luminary’ of knowledge. CEM said “Team Karbi Anglong” would not be intimidated by the posts on social media by APHLC against them. Team Karbi Anglong will not rest till Autonomous State is achieved, he said.

The CEM also said that the cycle of violence should not be repeated that was prevalent during the Autonomous State movement in the 90s where the Karbis killed the Karbis by burning them alive.

“The people should not be misled by the posts of APHLC in social media. Team Karbi Anglong is for peace, development and progress,” he added.
