Atoizu assault: Civil society terms UGs’ atrocity terror

Civil organizations have in no uncertain terms denounced the August 7 assault of a polytechnic institute’s principal in Zunheboto as an act of terror and yet another case of Naga underground cadres running free to perpetuate suffering on the people.
Students, government officers, and civil community organizations issued separate statements on Wednesday, August 12, denouncing the affront. The organization groups have cautioned that untoward acts of the “uncivilized people” would not be tolerated.On August 7, it was reported that M Nakro, the principal of the polytechnic institute in Atoizu under Zunheboto district, was assaulted and his life threatened by NSCN (K) activists over an issue reported to be extortion. The NSCN (K) workers are said to have demanded Rs 1.5 lakh as “5% on work tax under KPA”.
Chakhesang officers: Another instance of terror by UGs
The Chakhesang Gazetted Officers’ Association issued a press release on Wednesday calling the Atoizu incident as yet another act of terror that has impacted the minds of students.
The officers expressed resentment at the incident calling it ‘reckless’ and ‘dastardly act’ in the process of demanding “Rs 1.5 lakh as 5% on work tax under KPA”.
In the statement appended by the association’s president, Vevo Sapu and joint secretary, Darhu Shupao, the officers said that the threat meted out to the principal “by means of firing a revolver inside his official residence by those who professes to be national workers of NSCN (K) group is yet another instance of terror which has direct impact on the minds and dreams of hundreds of students”.
‘It is unfortunate that a handful of untamed cadres were running with a free mischief hands demeaning political ideologies adversely overshadowing the cynosure of statue built by top leaders of Naga political groups’, the association stated in the press release.
“While strongly condemning such sinister act, the association has urged the law enforcing agencies to probe into the case and punish all the offenders directly involved in the incident at the earliest. At the same time, it has also appealed the NSCN (K) authority to reign in their cadres,” the officers added.
NSF: ‘Will not tolerate acts of uncivilized people in future’
Likewise, the Naga Students’ Federation issued a press release on Wednesday cautioning that “such kind of action by uncivilized people” will not be tolerated again. Taking strong note of the physically assault and threat to the principal’s life, the Naga stdunets’ apex made it clear that such affront on people was unacceptable.
The culprits physically charged and threatened the head of the institution with no reason and this is unacceptable in today’s modern society, NSF’s education secretary Imtiyapang stated in the press release.
‘At a time when the Nagas were working hard to bring peace in our land such act will only deviate our society. The federation urge upon the law enforcing agent to identified the miscreant and proper action must taken against their unacceptable behavior as per the law of the land,’ the federation stated. ‘The Naga Students’ Federation will not tolerate such kind of action by uncivilized people in our society in the future’.
Chakhesang youths: Arrest the culprits
Also, the Chakhesang Youth Front issued a separate press release expressing condemnation that the principal was assaulted and at gunpoint too by the NSCN (K) cadres. The youths have demanded that the state’s law-enforcing agencies to seek out the perpetrators of the crime at the earliest.
‘The Chakhesang Youth Front, vehemently condemn the assault of M. Nakro, principal of Kheloshe Polytechnic Atoizu at gun point on the 7th August, 2015 by NSCN (K) cadre. Every responsible citizens should rise up against this kind of atrocities against any innocent and hard working individuals,’ the youths stated.
“The CYF lodge our strong protest over this attempted murder, which has not only created insecurity to the victim and his family but also to the innocent citizens at large. We urge the authorities concern to arrest the culprits at the earliest,’ the Chakhesang youths stated.
