ATMA Zunheboto conducts training and demonstrations

DIMAPUR — ATMA Zunheboto block organised a one-day training programme on ‘Intercropping towards sustainable agriculture’ on October 27 at Sukhalu village, Zunheboto, with the goal of imparting technical knowledge on good agricultural practices for sustainable agriculture.

According to a press release, the programme’s resource persons were Chubatsur, block technology manager, ATMA Zunheboto block, and Aloli Z Muru, assistant technology manager, ATMA Zunheboto block.

During the training, the resource persons covered topics such as intercropping for sustainable agriculture, crops beneficial for intercropping, the importance of leguminous plans in soil fertility, and the right crop selection for intercropping.

A total of 21 farmers participated in the training programme, and some winter vegetable seeds were distributed to the participants.

On the same day, the team also travelled to Hekiye village under the Zunheboto block for a demonstration programme.

During the programme, demonstrations on raised bed preparation of winter vegetables and a variety of practices for cole crops were conducted with hands-on demonstration by preparing a nursery bed for cabbage and line sowing carrot with proper spacing using a rope and a measuring tape.

The resource persons emphasised the importance of maintaining nursery raised beds, timely irrigation, transplantation time, spacing, line sowing, and harvesting.

In total, 10 women farmers took part in the demonstration programme, and seeds were also distributed.
