DIMAPUR — The Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Peren, Tening Block, organised a series of farmer-orientated training and demonstration programmes on June 5.
According to an update, the initiatives aimed to enhance agricultural knowledge, promote sustainable farming practices, and improve livelihood opportunities for rural farmers.
The programmes included training on the cultivation of Shiitake mushrooms at Mbaulwa village, conducted by Lily Tungoe, Block Technology Manager (BTM) of Tening Block.
During the training, participants were introduced to scientific methods of Shiitake mushroom cultivation, including substrate preparation, inoculation, incubation, crop management, harvesting, and marketing opportunities.
Farmers participated in practical sessions and expressed interest in adopting mushroom cultivation as an additional source of income. To support practical implementation, a drilling machine was handed over to the farmer group.

Additionally, a demonstration on the integrated pest management (IPM) of Fall Armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) in maize was conducted at Mbaulwa village by Kewichamsi Kaurinta, Assistant Technology Manager (ATM).
The demonstration focused on pest identification, understanding the life cycle, and eco-friendly management practices. Farmers were trained on the use of bio-pesticides, sand and lime application, and other integrated approaches for effective management of Fall Armyworm while reducing dependence on chemical pesticides.
In Mbaupungchi village, Matsungtoshi N Pongener, Assistant Technology Manager (ATM), conducted a demonstration on the scientific cultivation of French beans.
Farmers were guided on improved production technologies, including the selection of quality seed, bed preparation, nutrient management, irrigation scheduling, staking, and integrated pest and disease management. The programme highlighted the potential of French bean cultivation for improving household nutrition and increasing farm income.
