ATMA Mon holds farmer-scientist interaction programme

Dimapur — Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Mon, conducted a district-level farmer-scientist interaction programme on Tuesday in the conference hall of the district agriculture officer (DAO) in Mon town.

The ATMA project director and DAO of Mon, Kenesiezo Punyu, who also inaugurated the programme, called upon the farmers to be dedicated as well as work hard and do proper land use planning in order to get the best out of the land and improve their socio economy.

He also told the farmers to come out and share their technical and cultural problems faced in their fields freely in the programme, stated an update from ATMA Mon.

Subenthung Odyuo, ATMA deputy project director of ATMA, informed that farmer-scientist interaction is a two-way interaction programmes between farmers and extension officers and between farmers and research scientists. He stated that the programme would enable more and more farmers to visit/ approach extension officers and scientists for their technical guidance on agriculture.

Later, a technical session was conducted by Dr. Renbomo Ngullie, scientist and ACTO at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Aboi.

It stated that various issues on production, disease and pest were raised by farmers, while the resource person discussed on emerging new diseases and their management. He also stressed on the use of quality seeds and cultural practices to mitigate the effect of climate change.

It informed that the farmers advisory committee members from, farmers friend and farmer group leaders from different villages participated in the programme.
