ATMA Kohima felicitates progressive farmers

KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 20: With the objectives to provide a platform for the farmers of the district to sell and exhibit their produce, an exhibition cum sales day under the aegis of ATMA Kohima was organised at Kohima local ground today. The programme was inaugurated by the State Chief Secretary, Pankaj Kumar, as the chief guest.
The programme saw the attendance of two institutional experts namely Director of GIZ Firm Floris Van Der from Germany and Poland, and Michiel Arnoldus, MSC MDEV, Managing Director, South Africa.
Addressing the participants and the local farmers, Pankaj Kumar encouraged the farmers for surplus agricultural production of the best grown and suitable crops/ seeds. The farmers were also encouraged to try and implement various available technologies to increase productivity in an organic way saying marketing channel will open and increase the supply too.
He also gave away the ATMA Kohima Farmers’ Awards 2016 to ten (10) progressive farmers under individual and groups category.Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, and Chairman Governing Board (ATMA-Kohima), Rovilatuo Mor, who chaired the programme, said the exhibition was organised to showcase the potential in the field of economy prosperity and to encourage the local products and also showcase the various agriculture produce of Agri and allied department.
He said the event also aims to provide information regarding various technological and advanced packages of practices through agri clinics and interaction; make farmers aware of the various outlets of agricultural machineries, tools, implements, improved seeds of specific local relevance and sell through various dealers who are operational in the districts.
While encouraging the farmers to take up farming seriously and excel in future to capture the vast market potentialities in general and of organic products in particular, Mor also highlighted on the need for effective marketing network, financial and logistics supports from various financial institutions and the government.
He acknowledged the participation of the institutional experts and expressed hope that with their participation, the marketing networking would progress positively particularly in agri and allied sector in days to come.
Short speeches were also delivered by APC and Commissioner and Secretary of Agriculture, Imkonglemba; Floris Van Der, and Michiel Arnoldus.
In recognition of the effort of progressive farmers and FIGs/ SHGs from different enterprises representing different blocks of the district and to encourage the other farmers to take up faring seriously and excel in the future, ATMA Kohima Farmers’ Awards 2016 were awarded to ten (10) progressive farmers under individual and groups category.
Kedozo from Sakhabama, Arhunlo Semp from Zunpha, Loguseng Tsela from Tseminyu town, Vipiehu Chucha from Khonoma and Vikuolie from Rüsoma were awarded under individual category. Kenei Krotho from Sechü, Zubza, Kevi Krotho from Phesama, Nourhe Krotho from Tsiesema, Nsha Logwa from Tseminyu village and Shene FIG from Tseminyu south were awarded under group category.
Altogether 15 stalls were put up to showcase organic and inorganic products.
