Farmers and ATMA officials after a demonstration programme
at Heiranglwa village, Peren.
- DIMAPUR — The Agricultural Technology
Management Agency (ATMA), Peren, Tening Block, conducted a one-day
demonstration and capacity-building programme at Heiranglwa village on April
17, focusing on livestock health management and value addition in local
produce.
- According to a press release, in the first session,
Assistant Technology Manager (ATM) Rokozhalie Namdau, the resource person for
the piggery segment, conducted a practical demonstration on piggery
vaccination, deworming, and common disease management.
- He emphasised the importance of regular health check-ups,
timely vaccinations, and maintaining hygiene in pig shelters. Veterinary
medicines were also distributed among the farmers to support effective
livestock care.
- The second session focused on capacity-building in King
Chilli pickle making, led by Block Technology Manager (BTM) Lily Tungoe as the
resource person.
- Participants, especially women and youths, were trained in
hygienic preparation, preservation, and packaging methods to enhance value
addition and promote small-scale entrepreneurship.

- The programme witnessed participation from local farmers,
self-help group (SHG) members, and community youths. It aimed at empowering
rural communities with practical knowledge to enhance livelihoods through
improved livestock practices and value-added products. A total of 15 farmers
attended the programme.
- Also, ATMA Tuensang, Tsaru Block, conducted a training and
capacity-building programme at Old and New Tsadang villages on April 9, with
resource persons BTM Dr. T Arenmongla and ATM Tiyongnaro.
- During the training programme at New Tsadang village,
resource person Dr. Arenmongla spoke on the topic "Growing coriander in hydroponic
system" and the value addition of tree bean (yongchak).
- The farmers were apprised of the advantages of value
addition and its prolonged shelf life. They were also taught the principles of
packaging, storage, and marketing.
- Meanwhile, at Old Tsadang village, resource person
Tiyongnaro spoke on the topic "Tomato seed extraction methods and
Berkeley's method of compost making”.
- The resource person highlighted the benefits of hot
composting and how compost can be obtained by the farmers in a short duration
of time through this method. A total of 12 farmers, along with ATMA officials,
attended the training-cum-capacity-building programme.
