Dimapur, Sep. 12 (EMN): Mon block of the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (Atma) conducted a two-day training and demonstration on “Value addition in Naga king chilli” and “Nursery bed preparation of cabbage” on September 9 and 10 in Leangnyu village.
On day one, the resource person BTM Vimeno Zao discussed the importance of value addition in Naga king chilli to minimise post harvest losses and add value to the produce, stated an update from Atma Mon block. It added that the process of making pickle and sauce from Naga king chilli were discussed at length besides distribution of training materials to the participants.
On day two, the resource person BTM Mhachamo Ngullie demonstrated how to prepare raised nursery beds for cabbage. He shared about the importance and advantages of raising seedlings in a nursery and also care in raising the seedlings till it is ready to be transplanted in the field.
It stated that cabbage seeds were distributed to the participating farmers. Altogether, 15 participants attended the training programme.
In a related programme, Atma Wakching block conducted a capacity building on sustainable agriculture in Wakching Chingla village on September 9 with Weeniyie Yanlen as resource person who spoke on sustainable farming to meet the present society’s needs without compromising the needs of the future generation.
He also demonstrated the preparation of Bordeaux mixture. It stated that winter vegetable seeds and mixture were given away to 18 farmers who attended the programme.
In another programme, a six-day skill training of rural youth (Stry) on winter vegetable cultivation was conducted at Yuching village council hall from September 6 to the 11th.
The resource persons namely Imnuksungba, horticulture officer of Mon; I Nuchet, Atma deputy project director; Minching, HEA, Mon; and Ngepshai, farmers friend of Yuching village spoke on nursery bed preparation, nursery bed management, integrated pest and nutrient management.
The resource persons conducted hands-on training in the cultivation of winter crops like French beans, onion, chilly, tomato and garden peas and cold crops such as broccolli, pakchoi, radish, cauliflower, cabbage, lettuce, and knol khol.
Meanwhile, Atma Angjangyang block conducted a capacity building training of women SHG at Angjangyang village on September 9 with Nemchaba Jamir, BTM, as the resource person.
During the event, SHG members were asked to develop their potential, abilities and resources. Altogether, 32 members participated in the programme.
Atma Angjangyang block also conducted training and demonstration on cultivation of potato in Changlang village on September 7 with Leiwang Konyak and Longerkaba Ao as the resource persons. It stated that a total of 18 farmers, who attended the training, were distributed potato seeds.
