Agricultural Technology Management Authority (ATMA) Zunheboto, in association with SAMETI, Medziphema and MANAGE, Hyderabad, conducted a six-day skill training of rural youth (STRY) on “Protected cultivation of high-value vegetables” from January 27 to February 2 in Alaphumi village.
An update from ATMA Zunheboto stated that resource persons Tsuktilemla Ao, BTM of Akuluto block; Kaboli Wotsa, ATM of Akuluto block; Sedevise Liegise, BTM of Tokiye block; and Kivibo Achumi, ATM of Tokiye block; imparted training to the farmers by using various training methods including audio-visual aids and hands-on practical demonstration.
It stated that various resource persons have emphasised on the importance and scope of protected cultivation of high value vegetables. They have also highlighted on the potential of vegetable farming for self employment and sustenance.
Hands-on demonstration on construction of low cost net house, nursery raising of vegetables and vermin-composting were carried out.
The programme concluded with a valedictory session where certificates were awarded to all the participants by the programme coordinator followed by distribution of various gardening tools, seeds and bio-fertilizers.
Meanwhile, ATMA Akuluto block also conducted three demonstration programmes from January 24 to the 31st on ‘Soil and water conservation using gully plug method’ in Lumami village.
Another programme on mushroom production, in collaboration with FOCUS IFAD, Zunheboto, was held in Mukhami village and ‘IPM under protected cultivation’ in Alaphumi village respectively.
The resource persons namely Tsuktilemla Ao, BTM, and Kaboli Wotsa, ATM, conducted demonstrations at the farmers field. It stated that mushroom spawns and other materials were distributed to the participants by FOCUS IFAD.
