Dimapur, Feb. 5 (EMN): Agricultural technology management agency (Atma) Tsaru block in Tuensang district conducted a demonstration programme at Old Chungliyimti village on January 28.
An update from Atma Tuensang stated that the Longkhim agriculture officer and resource person, Trithiba Sangtam, gave a hands-on demonstration on deworming of pigs and emphasised on nutrition and improving backyard pig production. The assistant technology manager, Khatemenla, also highlighted the importance of neem products and its potential in organic agriculture.
It stated that one-month-old seedlings of Bokchoy were distributed to all the farmers and transplantation was done in their respective fields following the recommended spacing.
It also stated that a demonstration on control of pest and disease management of mustard and garden pea was conducted by the assistant technology manager, Tiyongnaro. The farmers were also provided with yellow sticky traps which were later installed in their respective fields.
A total of 14 farmers along with the block convener and Atma functionaries attended the programme.
In a related programme, Suruhuto block under Atma Zunheboto conducted demonstration programme on “Eco-system approach to inland fishery” at fishery farm school in Suruhuto town on January 28 with Kaoto Zhimo (ATM) as a resource person.
Zhimo has demonstrated the framework of fishery management by applying cowdung and potassium permanganate treatment for common fish pathogen such as gill parasites, external bacterial and fungal infections.
The same team also conducted a demonstration on “Organic plant protection method on vegetable crop” at Phuye Old. ATM Moanenla has demonstrated on the use of locally available materials and the importance to produce higher quality crops with minimal wastage.
The team also conducted demonstration on “Enhancing animal health with vitamin supplements” at cattle farm school in Tichipami village on January 29.
It stated that BTM Livika Zhimomi has highlighted the importance of high quality supplements for improving the health and performance of livestock.
It added that vitamins, de-worming medicine and mineral mixture were distributed to the farmers. Altogether, 20 farmers and Atma officials participated in the training programme.
