Atma conducts farmers training in Kohima
Dimapur, Feb. 19 (EMN): Jakhama block of the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (Atma) in Kohima district conducted a field demonstration on practices of French bean and Green pea cultivation at farm school in Pfuchama village on February 8.
An update from Atma stated that hands on demonstration on field preparation, line sowing, spacing and also its health benefits were shared to the farmers. Besides, a nursery bed preparation and sowing of onion seeds, its maintenance and timely irrigation and interventions till transplanting was also demonstrated.
In a separate programme, Atma Jakhama team also conducted field demonstrations on post harvest management of Large Cardamom at Khuzama Cardamom farm as well as practices of French beans, Green peas and sowing of potato at potato farm school in Khuzama village on February 11.
It stated that field demonstration at Cardamom farm began with the harvest of the cardamom, cleaning, sorting and methods of drying. The farmers were taught on the harvest method, calyx cutting and its curing methods.
Later, farmers were given hands on demonstration on line sowing of Green peas and French beans, spacing and its health benefits, importance of intercropping. At the potato farm school, the farm school teacher Veneisa Luho gave hands on demonstration on potato sowing, methods of field preparation, spacing, manuring and timely weeding. Again on February 16, the team conducted a field demonstration on practices of Ginger and Leek at Mitelephe village with women FIG group. The resource persons have highlighted the importance of both the crops, its commercial values and also encouraged the farmers to grow more local varieties.
