ATMA conducts demonstrations in Mokokchung
DIMAPUR — The Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Ongpangkong North block, conducted a demonstration programme on “Pro-tray nursery of winter vegetables” at Settsu village in Mokokchung on Wednesday.
Assistant technology manager Tajungsola Jamir gave a hands-on demonstration on the occasion, where the seedling trays (pro-tray) were filled with growing mediums such as cocopeat, vermicompost, and perlite, according to an update.
She also stressed the importance of irrigation and hardening of the seedlings before transplanting to the main field. She further noted that transplanting should be done in the morning or evening hours in raised beds, maintaining the right spacing between plants, as this affects the efficient utilisation of light, nutrients, and water, which can impact crop yield.
Altogether, six female farmers attended the demonstration programme. Inputs such as pro-trays, cocopeat, vermicompost, perlite, and winter vegetable seeds (cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, spinach, knol khol, bok choy, and coriander) were distributed to each farmer.
Another demonstration programme on “Nursery bed preparation of cauliflower” was also conducted at Mokokchung village, where resource person Watisenla Imchen gave a hands-on demonstration on nursery bed preparation, line sowing, spacing, maintenance, mulching, timely irrigation, and transplanting to the farmers.
She also emphasised cultural methods to control pest infections of cauliflower, such as using neem oil and yellow sticky traps.
Altogether, four female farmers attended the demonstration programme and winter vegetable seeds such as cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, knol khol, bok choy, spinach, lettuce, coriander, and chilli were distributed to each farmer.
