Dimapur, Sep. 28 (EMN): Adhoc Town Council Tobu Town (ATCTT) has reminded the state government on the clarification against the appointment of 11 members of town council by Advisor to Department of Urban Area (Duda) N Bungkhao.

On September 15, the ATCTT former vice chairman L Kaiba Konyak and former member A Yenso Konyak had issued a representation to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, seeking clarification on the appointment of members by the advisor.

“The ULB election was kept in abeyance; it was in consultation with the administration and public of all wards had democratically selected their ward chairmen or ward representatives excluding those undeclared ULB candidates to assist the administration for the smooth functioning of the town led by vice chairman and secretary. However, it is unfortunate that the Honb’le Advisor Duda has personally selected/appointed new members without seeking public majority on his self interest which is totally illegal and is against the democratic norms of the country,” read the representation.

The ATCTT has asked if the government of Nagaland has entrusted the advisor to appoint the members directly on his own ‘without consulting the general public or the person concerned, ward or town as well as the general administration’.

“If so, we would like to know the official notification of the state government regarding the authorisation order entrusted for appointment of members to the ULB. Those candidates who contested are waiting for declaration of result. The Town Council of Tobu would like to know from the state government the relaxation of null and void order. If not what action will be taken to Hon’ble Advisor Duda for violation of government policy,” it read.

“Therefore, we as bonifide citizens of India and as our legal right to information, we would like to seek your clarification to the above at the earliest,” it added.
