DIMAPUR— The stretch of road between the Chathe River bridge and Jharnapani along the Dimapur-Kohima four-lane road, which was recently closed for traffic after a rockslide killed two people and injured three others, will be partially opened for light passenger vehicles starting on Tuesday, but at their own risk.
In a notification, the deputy commissioner of Chümoukedima, Abhinav Shivam informed that the affected stretch of road will be opened for light passenger vehicles between 5 am and 6 pm from July 18 onwards but subject to certain conditions.
“Those willing to travel by the said stretch have to sign an undertaking with the Traffic Police personnel declaring that the commuter is aware of the risk involved and is undertaking the travel at one's own risk,” read the notification.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]‘The cases of medical emergencies, those undertaking travel through air or railways, and official vehicles, may be allowed on case-to-case basis,’ it added.
However, the authorities said that the stretch of road will be closed while dislodging rocks or executing other safety measures. It added that the road will be closed completely during heavy downpour and re-open once rain subsides.
It went on to inform that for regulation of traffic volume on the stretch of road, passenger vehicles will be released in small batches from Chathe River bridge to Jharnapani.
In the meantime, the Chümoukedima DC advised the people to avoid the affected stretch of NH-29 and take the alternate route in view of safety measures like locating and dislodging of loose rocks being undertaken on the stretch as well as heavy rainfall predicted for the coming days.
