ASU declares shutdown, indefinite bandh after alleged assault on its president by Assam Rifles
DIMAPUR — The Angami Students’ Union (ASU) has called for an immediate shutdown in all Angami-inhabited areas and an indefinite bandh starting August 10, following an alleged assault on its president by the Assam Rifles personnel on Friday afternoon.
In a statement, the ASU alleged that around 12:30 pm on Friday, the ASU President was physically assaulted by personnel of the 13th Assam Rifles on the road passing through the Assam Rifles camp at D Block, Kohima.
The union said that the assault was “without any reason” and the jawan(s) also attempted to hit the President with a rifle butt.
The ASU has also issued a directive barring all paramilitary forces from entering Angami-inhabited areas.
“All paramilitary forces in general, and the Assam Rifles in particular, are hereby directed and warned to abstain from plying through the Angami-inhabited areas with immediate effect and those camps within our jurisdiction must immediately refrain from coming out from their designated camps until further notice,” it said.
