KOHIMA, AUGUST 17
The Angami Students’ Union (ASU) has called off its agitation against the establishments of the Veterinary & Animal Husbandry department in Kohima Monday evening after the matter of contention was “resolved amicably” between the organization and the department.
The student body launched its agitation earlier this morning by picketing three offices of the department in the state capital- the directorate, district and State Cattle Breeding Farm (SCBF) offices- in the backdrop of its repeated appeals for cancellation of appointment of a non-indigenous inhabitant of Kohima district to a Grade-III/IV post at the SCBF Lerie falling on deaf ears. ASU had issued a representation each to the Chief Secretary and the director of the department on two separate occasions July last for cancellation of the appointment to the post of Cattle Attendant made to one Imlikaba.

ASU observed that the appointment was made against the standing order of the government that any resultant vacancies of Grade-III and IV posts in all the district offices ought to be filled only by the indigenous inhabitants of the concerned district people.
Consequent upon non-responsive attitude from the authorities, ASU had on August 13 announced that it will launch its first phase agitation on August 17 by picketing the department offices. Accordingly, entries to the three offices were blocked by ASU volunteers Monday morning. The department officials reportedly sought to meet the ASU leaders this afternoon.
ASU president, Dievi Yano confirmed that a meeting was held with the Parliamentary Secretary of the department, the commissioner & secretary, the director and few other officials of the department at the legislator’s office chamber. He informed that the appointment order has been cancelled and the matter stands “amicably settled”.
