Dimapur, April 26 (EMN): People in Mon and Tuensang will soon be able to play football on an artificial field, as construction of the ongoing synthetic turf playgrounds are nearing completion in the two districts.

A source in Mon informed Eastern Mirror that the laying of artificial turf on the football ground is in process and officials in-charge had recently visited the site to check the work progress.

The football ground in Mon is being constructed under the Khelo India scheme.

However, the source lamented the incompletion of gallery, saying that the project taken up under the North East Council (NEC) has been going on for the past eight years but no progress or hope of completion any time soon.

Another source informed this newspaper that the football ground in Tuensang, which is being constructed under the state plan, is also on the verge of completion.

“The astroturf field was supposed to be completed in a month but it may take around two months to complete,” the source said.

The officials also inspected the site to oversee the progress of the construction work, it was informed.

It may be recalled that the Advisor for Youth Resources and Sports, Zale Neikha said in 2021 that besides the two existing artificial turf football grounds at Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima and Peren, one each in Dimapur and Tuensang would be constructed under the state plan, while one in Mon would be built under Khelo India scheme.
