Dimapur, Sep. 2 (EMN): A panel of judges for the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) “Cleanest Colony Competition 2020” have started touring various colonies from the month of August. The judges would select the winner for the third quarter (July-September) competition.

The judgment would be based on criteria including garbage management, drainage management, foliage clearance, sanitation and tobacco control, an update from the judges stated on Wednesday.

There would be a winner for both the categories of big and small colonies separately. The winner for the quarterly competition would get a cash prize of INR 10,000, while the winner for the overall year would get a cash prize of INR 1,00,000. Besides, there would also be a cash prize of INR 30,000 and INR 20,000 for first and second runners-up respectively in the annual category.

The points for the annual competition would be calculated on the basis of the cumulative points accumulated over the year.

It may also be mentioned that the competition for the first quarter (January-March) and second quarter (April- June) this year could not be conducted owing to the pandemic and lockdown measures.

“Keeping the city clean is a collective responsibility and so all colony members are encouraged to keep their respective colonies clean not only for the prize but for a better, cleaner Dimapur,” the statement read.

The recently formed colony sanitation committees are expected to take an active role in this initiative.

The judges include Khiuzan Kaurinta (EAC); Sentimeren Pongen, DNSU vice president; K Ghokheto Chophy, president of Naga Council Dimapur; Tsenthungo Nyamo, president of Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF); Vimeno, vice president of Naga Women Hoho Dimapur (NWHD); Onen Jamir, general secretary of GBs Union Dimapur.

“We have to realise that it is not just one man's duty to keep the whole city clean. Without every individual participation it would be impossible to achieve the cleanliness tag. It is high time we should learn to practice to keep our surroundings clean just like our homes. Cleanliness should not depend on competitions or prizes, it should be a habit. sanitation and hygiene starts with you and me,” the statement added.
