Dimapur, September 21: The Mesulumi Village Council, Mesulumi Sub-Council Pfutsero Town, Mesulumi Students7 Union,Thetsumi Village Council, Chairman Reku Colony, President Reku Colony Youth, ANAHTA and ANHTU Phek Unit vehemently condemned the alleged physical assault on a Hindi teacher of GPS Thetsumi village by an Assam Rifles jawan on September 16. They said such an attack on an innocent public is intolerable.
Narrating the incident, Mesulumi Village Council president, Mesulumi Sub-Council Pfutsero Town chairman, Mesulumi Students Union president, Thetsumi Village Council chairman, Reku Colony chairman, Reku Colony Youth president and president of ANAHTA and ANHTU Phek Unit, in a joint release today, said some jawans under the command of Major Rahul of 9th AR D’Coy Tutsero arrived near the petrol pump at Reku colony, Pfutsero at around 3.40 pm on September 16. One of the jawans identified as N Domeh from Tonjoi village in Manipur started questioning Khroshe Puro, finance secretary of Mesulumi Students' Union, who was in the spot, if he saw any underground tax collector. When Khroshe replied in the negative, the jawan pointed towards Wekupe Tsuhah, who was playing carom there and asked him about his identity.
Even though Khroshe identified Wekupe as a Hindi Teacher of GPS Thetsumi Village and that he is from Mesulumi village, the jawan, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, pulled him into their mini truck and started assaulting him besides verbally abusing him. When the jawan continued his assault on Wekupe, other jawans accompanying him took away his service rifle, the release said. The jawan again claimed to be a Chakhesang from Khezhakeno village, it added.
Thereafter, the release said, Wekupe was taken away by the jawans in their vehicle. When the colony public and villagers inquired through OC of Pfutsero as to why Wekupe was carried off, Maj. Rahul denied involvement of his Jawans and stated that those jawans might be from Chizami post. Following this, the colony people inquired through OC of Chizami PS with the post commander of Chizami post who also denied sending his jawans to Reku colony on that day.
After continued intervention by the Reku public, villagers, Pfutsero Town Youth and OC of Pfutsero, Major Rahul admitted that Wekupe was arrested on mistaken identity. Major Rahul also told the public that a group of insurgents suspected to be from NSCN-K had come down to disturb the peaceful environment in Pfutsero town and for which he sent his jawans, the release added.
The public termed Major Rahul’s statement defending his jawan as a “big lie” and condemned his and his jawan Domeh’s action.
The organizations also sought clear clarification from higher authority of Assam Rifles about N Domeh who claimed to be from Southern Angami and a Chakhesang from Khezhakeno village.
