Assam’s Jugal and Nazia clinch championship titles

Master Jugal Baruah and Naziya Ahmed of Assam were declared winners of the All India Tennis Association (AITA) Talent Series in the boys and girls Under 14 categories respectively which concluded today at Nagaland Tennis Association Complex, Kuda Village, Dimapur. In the semi finals, Jugal Baruah secured easy win by defeating Luching Lukram of Manipur 6-0, 6-0 and went on to defeat his counterpart Satyam Goswami of Assam 6-1, 6-2 in the final to clinched the title. In the other semi finals, the runner-up Satyam Goswami defeated his State mate Arith Bhuyan 6-2, 6-3.
A total of 35 boys from Assam, Manipur, Nagaland and Tripura have participated in the Talent Series
Vice president of Nagaland Tennis Association (NLTA), David Kire gave away the trophies for the boys in the presence of the Tournament Director, Asa Khate.
In an exciting final of the Nagaland Open Girls’ Singles Tournament, Naziya Ahmed of Assam overcame a tough resistance from State mate Raina Zaffar to clinched the title with a scoreline of 6-4, 6-3.
Girl players from Assam and Nagaland have participated in the tournament.
The trophies and the prize money for the Nagaland Open Girls’ Singles Tournament were given away by the sponsor of the tournament Charlie Sekhose of M/s Charlie Sekhose.
Meanwhile, NLTA has announced to host AITA – Championship Series National Ranking Tournament for Under-16 Boys & Girls beginning on December 14 at the Nagaland Tennis Association Courts from December 14. The championship which is scheduled to conclude on December 18 is expected to draw over 50 boys and 15 girls players from across different states of the country.
NLTA officials informed that registration for participation will be conducted on December 13 between 12 noon to 2 p.m. Officials have solicited the public to come and witness the tournament and to encourage the players and organizers.
