Assam Rifles undertakes various activities, initiatives

DIMAPUR — The fourth day of the national integration tour (NIT), organised by Assam Rifles for children from border villages in Noklak as part of its civic action programme, included a visit to Kaziranga National Park.

According to an update, the children also visited Orchid Park, where they witnessed the rich biodiversity and conservation efforts in place, and they were also taught about the importance of ecosystem balance and environmental protection.

Wreath-laying ceremony

The Assam Rifles held a wreath-laying ceremony to honour Rifleman (GD) Deen Dayal Singh’s valour and supreme sacrifice.

On Monday, 83 soldiers, including two officers, paid tribute to the brave soldier at the Unit War Memorial in Jalukie, it said, adding that on January 8, 2001, while the unit was stationed in Shangshak, Manipur, Singh made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty while fighting with militants in Ukhrul.

The Assam Rifles troops also paid a visit to the braveheart’s native place, where they met his relatives and presented a token of remembrance on behalf of the Assam Rifles.

Various sport events

The Assam Rifles organised a goodwill basketball match in Meluri town, Phek, bringing together uniformed personnel and youth in a friendly event. The initiative aimed to foster camaraderie, build bridges between generations, and promote a sense of community.

In a separate event, the Assam Rifles organised a friendly tug of war and volleyball competition with the youths of Akhegwo Town and Kekhegwo Village at Akhegwo COB in Phek District under the theme “Sports: A way to connect hearts” on Monday.

It said that in its ongoing efforts to strengthen its bond with the local populace, Assam Rifles reached out to the local youths. The event saw the participation of 23 boys and four girls from Akhegwo town and Kekhegwo village.

The event commenced with an opening address by the company commander, Akhegwo COB, emphasising the importance of games and various outdoor competitions for the youth.

The competitions took place between the teams of Assam Rifles and the youths and concluded with the distribution of prizes.

Medical camp at Tsundang

The Assam Rifles conducted a medical camp on the theme “With you and for you” at Tsundang, Kiphire, on Monday.

The camp, led by military medical professionals, provided a spectrum of healthcare services, including general check-ups, vaccinations, eye examinations, and the distribution of essential medicines. The aim was to address the healthcare needs of the underserved population in the region.

The update mentioned that the initiative sought to enhance the overall well-being of the residents, addressing both immediate health concerns and preventive healthcare measures. Recognising the challenges faced by the community in accessing medical facilities, Assam Rifles collaborated with local health authorities and community leaders to ensure the success of the event.

According to the statement, the gaon burhas, village council chairman, and the general public expressed their gratitude for the medical camp and emphasised the importance of such initiatives while committing to fostering goodwill and building strong relationships with Assam Rifles.
