Assam Rifles total up day’s law work

Troopers of the 18th Assam Rifles have nabbed an activist of the underground group NSCN (IM) and confiscated arms. The security force carried out a search operation in village Phanjang near Jalukie in Peren district on December 18 which led to the detention of one SS “capt” Atong alias Totong of NSCN (IM). He was apprehended along with an unlicensed 12 bore gun, live ammunition, incriminating documents and extortion notes, the IGAR said in a press release received here Friday.
In another action, troops of the 29th Assam Rifles intercepted liquor being smuggled, from the Golaghat road in Dimapur. The operation was based on information the security force received about illegal Indian Made Foreign Liquor being smuggled in and around the stated areas, the IGAR stated in a separate note received here Friday.
During a frisking cordon, the Assam Rifles intercepted two Maruti cars and two Maruti Vans coming in from Khatkati to Dimapur. The vehicles were found to be loaded with 179 cases of illegal IMFL, the IGAR said. “All eight individuals who were ferrying the consignment were apprehended and handed over to the Excise Department, Dimapur along with all the 179 cases of recovered IMFL.”
The names of the accused are Raj Kumar, Shim Ali, Raju Singha, John Choudhary, Silim Ali, Chandan Kumar, Amar Mandal and Uttam Malakar.
