Dimapur, Oct. 21 (EMN): The Assam Rifles conducted several social welfare activities in Nagaland in the last few days. An update from Lt Col L Vincent Patton informed that Zunheboto Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) conducted a lecture on ‘Educated Naga’s Progressive Nagaland’ on October 18 at St. Peter’s School, Atoizu, Zunheboto.
The lecture stressed on the significance of education for a peaceful and prosperous society. The importance of education in generating avenues for a better career and future was highlighted to the participants that include five teachers and about 82 students.
Medical aid to children home
Kohima Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) provided medical consultation to children of Eden Garden Children’s Home, Khuzama at Kohima garrison on October 19. Basic treatment for dental-related problems and common ailments was provided besides free medical consultation to those at Eden Garden Children’s Home which is home to 272 children from Nagaland and Manipur.
Awareness on common viral diseases was also imparted to the children.
Solar lamps distribution
173 Bn CRPF distributed eco-friendly solar lamps to the villagers during its civic action programme conducted on October 19 at Khensa village, Mokokchung.
Speaking on the occasion, Vishnu Gautam, commandant 173 Bn CRPF, underlined the need for mutual understanding and co-operation between the security forces and the local populace of the area.
The programme was also attended by Dr. Uma Shanker Verma, CMO, Khensa village chairman and prominent local people of the area and media persons. Altogether, 38 families benefited through this programme.
National integration tour
In an endeavour to acquaint local school children to the rich cultural diversity and the rapid strides of development and progress of the nation, the Assam Rifles organised a national integration tour (NIT) for three teachers and 23 students from Assembly of God Higher Secondary School, Dimapur from Sep. 30 to Oct. 13.
The NIT delegation visited New Delhi, Chandigarh and Amritsar, where they interacted with the locals and exchanged their views on development, customs and tradition, giving them the feeling of “unity in diversity”, stated an update from the Assam Riffles.
The commander, 6 Sector Assam Rifles complemented the tour members. The teachers and students of Assembly of God Higher Secondary School, Dimapur extended their gratitude to the AR for the wonderful opportunity and experience provided to them.
