Dimapur, June 19 (EMN): Based on specific information, the Assam Rifles troops along with representative from Nagaland police seized contraband items amounting worth INR 3 crore at Oriental Colony, Dimapur, on June 19.
A defence release stated that during the search of a suspected godown, the troops recovered 1550 bags of areca nut worth INR 3 crore. It stated that one Lalan Kumar, resident of Rajapakse in Vaishali village, Bihar, was arrested.
The release added that the arrested person along with the recovered items were handed over to the office of assistant commissioner of custom, Dimapur, for further investigation.
In a separate incident, the troops of Assam Rifles seized contraband items worth INR 45.3 lakh at Ghaspani on June 18. The items were being transported from Manipur to Dimapur, a defence release stated.
During spot checking of vehicles, two trucks were intercepted carrying 135 bags of areca nut worth INR 45.3 lakh. The release added that three individuals were arrested and handed over to custom preventive division, Dimapur, along with recovered items for further investigation.
