Dimapur, April 15 (EMN): To alleviate hardship being faced by widows, Veer Naris and ex-servicemen following lockdown, Dimapur battalion of the Assam Rifles undertook reach-out campaign by distributing basic essential commodities.

A defence release stated that hand sanitisers and gloves were given to a youth hostel in Dimapur where transients are being quarantined. The battalion also assisted in setting up of mobile tents designated as check points in various parts of Dimapur to facilitate the state administration in checking of unnecessary movement as a run up to the complete lockdown imposed with effect from April 15.

In a related programme, Assam Rifles battalion deployed at Ghaspani reached out to Public Health Centre, Medziphema, and provided essential rations and chemicals items to them. A cleanliness and sanitisation drive was also jointly undertaken at various places in Medziphema.

The reach out campaign is a small gesture acknowledging the dedication and selflessness of the frontliners of Covid-19, who continues their fight towards containing the pandemic by working round the clock, the release added.
