Dimapur, Sep. 1 (EMN): Kohima battalion of the Assam Rifles organised a ‘Friends of North East’ (FONE) meeting with village heads and council members in Chakabama under Kohima district on August 30.

The meeting was aimed at strengthening relationship with the local populace and also sensitise them about the prevalent security situation in the area, an update from Assam Rifles stated. Importance of their role and contribution required to maintain vigil against illegal activities was also reiterated during the meeting.

A total of 31 village heads and council members of Chakabama and adjoining villages attended the meeting.

The same battalion celebrated ‘National Sports Day’ at Assam Rifles Public School in Kohima on August 30.

To mark the occasion, a one-day sports event which included football, badminton and 100-metre race for the school children were organised. It stated that students have participated with enthusiasm and showcased their sports skills.

A total of 104 students and 15 teachers participated in the event.

In another programme, Mon battalion of the Assam Rifles organised a health camp in Tizit village under Mon district on August 30.

The medical camp was aimed at providing necessary medical assistance to villagers of remote areas. Health check-up was conducted to identify the symptoms of monsoon related diseases, heart ailments, tuberculosis, lifestyle diseases and life threatening diseases as well as old age related problems among senior citizens including arthritis.

It stated that a total of 234 villagers including females and children were screened and free medicines were provided along with the remedial measures.

Meanwhile, Tuensang battalion of the Assam Rifles organised a friendly volleyball match in Tobu village under Tuensang district on August 30.

It stated that the battalion gifted sports items to students’ union team. The game was organised in presence of village council, GBs, students’ union and local residents.  Prizes were distributed to both the teams.

The same battalion organised a friendly volleyball matches with Chenloisho Wangto Students’ Union at Chenloisho COB in Mon district on August 30.

A total of 43 players participated in the matches. It added that students and villagers witnessed the event. Prizes in form of sports items were given to the students’ union.
