DIMAPUR — As part of the ongoing ‘Fit India Freedom Run 6.0’ and in line with the theme ‘Swachh Bharat, Swasth Bharat,’ Assam Rifles organised a plogging drive at Kashiram Basti, Dimapur, on Thursday.

The event aimed to promote fitness and environmental cleanliness among the troops. A total of three officers, 14 JCOs and 90 other ranks of Assam Rifles took part in the drive, combining jogging with the collection of plastic waste and litter from Garrison areas, a defence release stated.

“The initiative highlighted the importance of clean surroundings for a healthy lifestyle, aligning with the national vision of fit and clean India. The event successfully spread awareness on the need for responsible waste management and physical fitness as part of the daily life,” the release stated.

Assam Rifles also organised a wreath laying ceremony on Thursday in honour of Sub-Subedar Bir Bahadur Thapa, who made the supreme sacrifice during the Battle of Asaphila in the Chinese aggression of 1962.

The ceremony witnessed wreath laying by officers, junior commissioned officers, and other ranks of the unit, who paid rich tributes to the valiant soldier.

A two-minute silence was observed to honour his bravery, selfless devotion to duty, and supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation.

“The courage and indomitable spirit of Subedar Bir Bahadur Thapa, whose valour continues to inspire the ranks of Assam Rifles and instils pride in carrying forward the rich legacy of the force,” the release stated.

Meanwhile, as part of sustained outreach initiatives to engage with youth and inspire them towards national service, Assam Rifles organised an interactive programme titled ‘A day with the company commander’ at Sinai Mission School, Kukidolong, on October 21.

The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of five teachers and 40 students (30 boys and 10 girls) from Sinai Mission School.

The participants were given a rare opportunity to closely interact with Assam Rifles troops and gain insights into the lives of soldiers.

The day commenced with a welcome and orientation session, followed by a ceremonial flag salute, evoking a deep sense of patriotism and national pride.

The key feature of the event was a motivational lecture on career opportunities in the armed forces.

The lecture highlighted the honours, bravery, dedication and sacrifices of armed personnel across the country who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

“For young students, it is a reminder that true heroism lies in service, sacrifice and commitment to society. To make the experience enriching and interactive, a variety of competitions were held focusing on physical fitness, teamwork and self-defence skills,” it stated.

The programme concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where winners of various competitions were felicitated and all participants were presented with tokens of appreciation.
