Assam Rifles organises medical camp, celebrates Mother’s Day, Nurses Day

DIMAPUR — Assam Rifles organised a medical camp for children and an awareness lecture for troops and families on Mother’s Day in Kohima, Nagaland, on May 11.

According to a press release, a total of 81 families attended the event. Paediatrician Dr. Pratharna from Naga Hospital Authority Kohima, along with medical officers of Assam Rifles, conducted the check-ups for the children.

An awareness lecture on the importance of nutrition and wellness was also conducted for the troops to educate them on the significance of nutritional value.

It also conducted a medical camp at Jaboka village in Mon district on May 10, aimed at providing vital healthcare services to residents of remote areas and ensuring access to essential medical care.

A total of 105 individuals from nearby villages, including 34 males, 45 females, and 26 children, benefited from the medical camp.

Mother’s Day

Assam Rifles celebrated Mother’s Day at Chakhesang Mission Higher Secondary School, Pfütsero, along with the Chakhesang Mother’s Association (CMA).

The event featured a speech by the company commander on the day, followed by an address from the president of the Chakhesang Mother’s Association on women’s rights, women empowerment, and the role of mothers in people’s lives.

It also marked Mother’s Day by distributing 20 corrugated galvanised iron (CGI) sheets to the Pochury Mother’s Association in Meluri and sweets to mothers at Avangkhu village.

International Nurses Day

The force, in collaboration with the district administration, commemorated International Nurses Day on the theme “Our Nurses, Our Future” at the District Hospital Kiphire.

As part of the celebration, Assam Rifles distributed sweets as tokens of appreciation, acknowledging their outstanding contributions to healthcare delivery.

World Lupus Day

Assam Rifles organised ‘World Lupus Day’ in collaboration with the National Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (NIMSR) in Kohima on May 10.

According to an update, two doctors, Dr. Vizinuo Visi and Dr. Tewe U Kapfo, delivered an awareness lecture on Lupus and provided information about the identification and remedial measures to be taken to cure the disease.

A total of two officers, 10 junior commissioned officers (JCOs), and 110 other ranks attended the awareness lecture. The lecture educated the troops of Assam Rifles about Lupus disease, its spread, and remedies to cure it.

Wreath-laying ceremony at Ghaspani

A wreath-laying ceremony was organised at the Unit War Memorial in Ghaspani to pay homage to Braveheart Rfn (GD) Darwan Singh, who made the supreme sacrifice while foiling an attack by militants on a patrolling party near Vijay Nagar Post, Jairampur, on May 12, 1981, when the unit was deployed at Jairampur, Arunachal Pradesh.

The event was attended by three officers, 28 JCOs, and 233 other ranks of the battalion. During the ceremony, the attendees were briefed on how the fallen hero displayed conspicuous gallantry, indomitable resolve, grit, determination, and selflessness beyond the call of duty, making the supreme sacrifice.
