Assam Rifles organise football tournament at Indo Myanmar border
Dimapur, Oct. 1 (EMN): In order to further the growing ties between India and Myanmar, the Assam Rifles organised the first ever Friendship Cup Football Tournament between India and Myanmar villages along the Indo-Myanmar border from September 27 to the 29th.
According to an update from the Press Information Bureau (Defence Wing), the inaugural Friendship Cup kicked off in the village of Nampisha in Kamjong district of Manipur on September 27. Five teams from border villages of Myanmar and seven from India participated in the tournament.
The final match was played between Teijang village team from Myanmar and host team from Nampisha village on September 29, where Teijang village team won 4-2 after a penalty shootout.
The champions received a cash prize of INR 35,000 and the runners-up walked home with INR 25,000. Consolation prizes of INR 5,000 were awarded to each participating teams from Myanmar along with trophies and medals.
