Mering Ao flags off the 50-km cycle rally in Impur on Saturday.

Mokokchung, Sep. 25 (EMN):
A fifty-kilometre cycle rally from Impur (Abam Mission Centre) to Changki was flagged off by Havildar Mering Ao, Shaurya Chakra (Retd.) on Saturday.

Havildar Mering Ao hails from Sungratsu village and served in 3 Assam Rifles. He had led his team from the front during the Burmese campaign. He was later awarded Shaurya Chakra for his leadership qualities during the successful offensive onslaught near the Indo-Myanmar border in 1956.

The cycle rally was organised by Assam Rifles in commemoration of the 75th years of Indian Independence (Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav).

Altogether, ten cyclists from the Assam Rifles participated in the rally.
