DIMAPUR — The Assam Rifles mourned the demise of Sep Shwensinlo of the Assam Regiment, who passed away on June 30 while picnicking at Nsonji Lake in Tsimenyu.
In a press note, it was informed that while enjoying a picnic with five friends, one of Shwensinlo’s friends encountered perilous waters and struggled to stay afloat. Without hesitation, Shwensinlo jumped into the lake and succeeded in rescuing his friend.
However, it stated that amidst the rescue effort, his feet became entangled in the weeds and mud in the lakebed, rendering him unable to save himself.
“His unwavering commitment to duty and his comrades is an inspiration to us all,” it read, adding that following the tragic event, the Assam Rifles collaborated with civil authorities, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), in the search operation.
Shwensinlo’s body was recovered from the lake on July 1.
