DIMAPUR — A children’s park at Nihokhu village in Niuland district, established by the Assam Rifles, was inaugurated on Wednesday.

According to a press release, the park was set up under the Assam Rifles Civic Action Programme to meet the aspirations of the villagers and is well-equipped with play equipment as well as other amenities.

The park was inaugurated in the presence of various dignitaries and civil society organisations. The inaugural event was attended by about 550 villagers, including 200 children from Nihokhu and nearby villages.

“The enthusiasm of the crowd was evident in the cultural performances and patriotic songs presented by the locals,” it read.

Averts fire in Kohima

Assam Rifles assisted in controlling a major fire incident that occurred at Old Ministers Hills in Kohima on April 2.

The troops of the Assam Rifles rushed to the spot and began the firefighting mission with the available resources, successfully preventing the spread of fire to nearby residential buildings, houses, and markets.

It was mentioned that the timely initiative and proactive firefighting drills by Assam Rifles in controlling the fire averted a major disaster that could have resulted in greater loss of life and property.

Conducts medical camp in Kiphire

Assam Rifles organised a medical camp at Nitoyi Village in Kiphire district with the aim of addressing the healthcare needs of the underserved population in the region.

The medical camp, led by military medical professionals, offered a range of healthcare services, including general check-ups, vaccinations, eye examinations, and the distribution of essential medicines.

“The initiative sought to enhance the overall well-being of the tribal residents, addressing both immediate health concerns and preventive healthcare measures,” it said, adding that, recognising the challenges faced by the community in accessing medical facilities, Assam Rifles collaborated with local health authorities and community leaders to ensure the success of the event.
