Assam Rifles continues with community work across state

Dimapur, Jan. 20 (EMN): The Assam Rifles establishment conducted various advocacy programmes about issues ranging from health to sanitation in the community in various areas of Nagaland, besides organising tours for students and teachers of schools.

The security forces from the various districts issued updates about the programmes they conducted.  

In Kohima, the Wokha battalion of the security force informed about another tour the security force organised for students and teachers from various districts.

Governor R N Ravi flagged-in a national interactive tour that was organised by the Wokha battalion of the Assam Rifles on January 17, at the Raj Bhavan in Kohima.

‘The 17-day tour to Chennai and Bengaluru had two teachers and 20 students from Wokha, Phek, Kiphire and Kohima was flagged off from Kohima on January 1 2020 by Brig. Abhinav Gurha, commander, 5 sector,’ the updates stated.

‘The tour included visits to the Indian Coast Guard with a sailing tour in the Bay of Bengal, places of technological and educational interests like Arignar Anna Zoological Park Chennai, National Shrine of St Thomas Basilica Church, Lalbarh Botanical Garden, Vishevesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum, ISKCON Temple, Bannerghatta Biological Park and Tippu Sultan Palace.’

The students also had the privilege of interacting with the governor of Tamil Nadu besides interacting with cadets undergoing training at the Officers Training Academy in Chennai.

Samvidhan

Elsewhere, the Mon battalion of the Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General of Assam Rifles (IGAR, north), organised ‘a run’ on the occasion of Samvidhan Diwas at Chenmoho villagae on January 16, the updates stated.

The event ‘emphasised the need to lead a fit and healthy lifestyle and in sync with the Fit India Campaign launched by the government of India,’ the updates stated.

“The run was an endeavour to engage the community to participate in healthy lifestyle practices and spread awareness about importance of regular physical activity to stay fit and healthy,” the security force informed.

Recruitment

The Mokokchung battalion of the Assam Rifles under the aegis of the Igar, north, is conducting pre-recruitment training programme for local youths at the battalion’s headquarters ‘with an aim to prepare and enable youth in making a career in defence forces.’

An update informed that the programme will have mock written tests and physical and medical tests which the security force said would prepare interested candidates to take the upcoming rallies with confidence and ‘correct approach.’

In a similar activity, the Jalukie battalion also conducted an interactive session concerning the theme ‘Join Indian Army/Assam Rifles’ on January 16 in Ngwalwa village’s community hall in Peren to highlight among the youths the various employment avenues that are with the Indian Army or the Assam Rifles.

‘They were also informed about the assistance being provided by the Assam Rifles to prepare aspiring candidates for recruitment rallies,’ the updates stated.

Lifestyle diseases and hygiene

The Zunheboto battalion of the Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) also organised a programme themed on lifestyle diseases, on January 18 in the government higher secondary school, Longkhim, in Tuensang.

“Various lifestyle diseases and the need to engage in healthy food habits to include physical activities to keep lifestyle diseases at bay, was covered. In addition, awareness on health education and precautions from common viral diseases was also imparted. 30 students and 4 teachers from the school attended the lecture,” the updates stated. 

The battalion also organised a cleanliness drive on January 17 at Chare town. The drive was conducted to give an insight about the importance of hygiene, sanitation and its benefits to individuals and the society in general. The event covered topics of various waste management techniques in tackling plastic use and to encourage use of eco-friendly bags, the updates informed.

Tour

A national tour for students of Kohima and Phek districts was flagged off by Brig. Satbir Singh, deputy inspector general of Assam Rifles, north (IGAR, north), on January 20 from the headquarters of the IGAR. The tour is being conducted by the Chieswema battalion as part of the Assam Rifles’ initiative to encourage learning among youths, the updates stated.

The 12-day itinerary comprises visits to Delhi, Dehradun and Mussoorie including Sansad Bhawan, War Memorial, Nehru Planetarium, Indian Military Academy, IAS Academy as well as an interaction with the governor of Uttarakhand, the organisers informed.

Drawing and posters

The Jalukie battalion of the Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (N) conducted a poster-making competition on January 19 at Baptist School in Tening, during which students ‘exhibited their imagination beautifully, touching upon themes related to health, environment and nature,’ updates from the organisers informed. A total of 42 students participated in the programme, the updates stated.
