DIMAPUR — A wreath-laying ceremony was organised at the Unit War Memorial at Ghaspani to pay homage to four bravehearts of the unit: Capt. Sameer Bhan, Rfn/ORL Vishnu Prasad, Rfn Arun Kumar Rana, and Rfn Radha Krishnan, who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty on February 20, 2002, when the unit was deployed in Thoubal, Manipur.

According to an update, the event was attended by three officers, 25 junior commissioned officers (JCOs), and 239 other ranks of the battalion.

During the event, the attendees were briefed on how the fallen heroes displayed conspicuous gallantry, indomitable resolve, grit, determination, and selflessness, making the supreme sacrifice in the true tradition of the force.

A day with company commander

Assam Rifles organised ‘A day with the company commander’ for students of Millennial Vision School, Dimapur, on February 21.

The event featured various activities, including a motivational lecture, songs, showcasing a movie on the Assam Rifles, and conducting games such as tug-of-war, musical chairs, and balloon shooting. The day concluded with a visit to the quarter guard.

A total of 34 students and two teachers attended the event, which was organised with the aim of fostering a harmonious relationship between Assam Rifles and the youth.

Lecture on joining the Indian Army

Assam Rifles conducted a lecture and presentation to encourage final-year students of the National Institute of Technology in Chümoukedima to consider joining the Indian Army on February 21.

An update mentioned that a total of 62 students and three faculty members were part of the interaction.

The presentation encompassed motivating students to join the Indian Army and covered various aspects such as the application process, training, and life in the Indian Army. Pamphlets on various officer recruitment to the Indian Army were also distributed.

Skill development centres inaugurated

Assam Rifles, in collaboration with TK Skills under the Skill India Initiative, inaugurated skill development centres for women in Mokokchung and Tuli. The initiative was themed ‘Passion to profession’.

Currently, 90 women from Mokokchung and Tuli are undergoing tailoring training at the centres.
