DIMAPUR — The Assam Rifles conducted a national integration tour (NIT) for elderly civilians to Delhi and Agra and organised a tree plantation drive in Tizit, Mon district.
According to a press release, as part of the ongoing National Integration Tour (NIT)–2026, the NIT team interacted with Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, Director General (DG), Assam Rifles, at LOAR, Delhi.
The NIT comprised a strength of 20 elderly civilians (15 male and five female) drawn from remote areas, undertaken with the objective of promoting national integration and unity through exposure to India’s cultural, historical and developmental landscape.

In Delhi, Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera engaged with the participants about their experiences and learning outcomes. He appreciated the enthusiasm, discipline and interest displayed by the participants. He also encouraged them to share their experiences with their communities and act as ambassadors of harmony, peace and development.
He commended the unit for the successful conduct of the NIT, which covered locations including Kaziranga, Delhi and Agra. He highlighted that such tours play a vital role in broadening the outlook of the youth and strengthening their emotional connection with the nation.
The team also visited Agra, where participants were briefed on the historical significance, architectural brilliance and cultural importance of the Taj Mahal. The visit provided the participants with an opportunity to appreciate India’s past and understand the values of harmony and craftsmanship.
According to a press release, 28 local children from Tizit and nearby villages joined Assam Rifles personnel in planting more than 150 saplings of native species, including sal, teak and bamboo, along the village periphery, community lands and the COB itself.
The event aimed to promote the sustainable growth of flora in the pre-monsoon season. Children participated in pit digging, sapling plantation and watering.
