Paona, the third highest peak in Nagaland was organised by 36 Assam Rifles under aegis of HQ IGAR (N) on February 26. A total of 40 students and two teachers from Government Higher Secondary School Jalukie have been participating in the trek. The participants will trek from Benrue village to Mt. Paona and will be introduced to issues covering environmental protection, forestation and protection of wild life. The event is aimed at fostering a spirit of adventure and to create awareness about the natural beauty of Nagaland amongst the local children. In another programme, 35 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) conducted a medical camp at Wakching village in Mon district on February 24. Capt Tejesh B S, medical officer and paramedical medical staff of 35 Assam Rifles treated 240 patients and distributed free medicines to the patients. Around eight villages availed the free medical camp. A similar camp was conducted by 36 Assam Rifles at Pedi village under Peren district, on February 25. The medical camp was conducted with the aim to provide basic medical treatment to the villagers residing in the interior areas of the region. During the camp, a team of Assam Rifles medical staff consisting of doctor, nursing assistants, BFNAs and assistant provided treatment to a total of 121 people of Pede and neighbouring villages and distributed medicines for various illnesses. 9 Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) organised an inter-village friendly volleyball match between the youth of Seed Farm Colony, Pfutsero Town, on Feb 25. The match was played with true sportsman spirit. The conduct of the event was to encourage the village youth to expose their hidden talent and strengthening mutual cooperation and understanding. 41 Assam Rifles under aegis of HQ IGAR (N) also conducted a lecture-cum awareness-programme at Government High School, Piphema on February 24, to educate the students on various career avenues available in defence and paramilitary forces. The troops is also currently conducting registration cum pre-recruitment training in arm force at Medziphema.
