Assam Rifles busted extortion racket of NSCN (K)

NSCN K   Dimapur, Feb. 19: The proscribed group NSCN(K) design to attain a foothold in Kohima received a heavy blow as 3 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) apprehended 5 civil personnel including NSCN(K) tax collectors, over ground workers and a printing press operator involved in printing of extortion slips in Kohima. The troops have been tracking the group over a protracted period and launched a special operation based on specific intelligence on February 17. According to 3 AR, the modus operandi being followed by the racketeers included printing of extortion slips at Eastern Printing Press which were distributed by tax collectors and overground workers of the faction to innocent civilians from whom money was subsequently collected by the same individual. It also added that the racket was working under a senior NSCN (K) cadre located in Dimapur. After apprehension of the persons, a series of raids were also carried out at places where the extortion notes were served and duly signed extortion slips of NSCN (K) were recovered. AR PRO also stated that the manager of Eastern Printing Press confirmed that extortion slips and demand slips of all UG groups were printed in the press and added that the confiscated computers also revealed the same. The apprehended persons along with all recovered items have been handed over to OC, Police Station (South) Kohima on February 18.
