Dimapur, March 12 (EMN): Based on specific input about the presence of NSCN (K), the proscribed organisation’s cadres and their involvement in nefarious activities, Kohima battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) launched an operation alongwith police representative at Naga Bazar in Kohima on March 12.
According to a press release from the authority on Monday, during the operation the team arrested a ‘self styled Major of NSCN (K)’ identified as Kisheto Ayemi (35 yrs), son of Nizetho Ayemi, resident of Thilixu village, Dimapur district.
The individual is stated to have revealed that he had been involved in extortion activities in Kohima.
“Intelligence sources confirmed Kisheto Ayemi belongs to 7th Bn of NSCN (K) and had been town commander Kohima during 2013 to 2015,” the press release stated.
He was also allegedly said to have been involved in firing incidents against SF at IG stadium, Puliebadze and Kohima town.
Kisheto Ayemi was also arrested by Zunheboto Battalion of Assam Rifles in Aug 2015 for carrying illegal weapons of 5.56mm M-16 Rifle, 9mm beretta and pt 303 Rifle, it informed.
One cash receipt of GPRN, one letter pad of Kohima town commander, one PAN Card, one Driving License, one Aadhar card and INR 15,870 were said to have found from his possession.
The accused along with recovered items were handed over to North Police Station Kohima for further investigation.
In a separate operation on March 11 at Jail colony in Kohima, the troops apprehended a ‘self styled deputy secretary rank cadre of NSCN (K)’ identified as Ukehtho Z Chopy (29 yrs), son of Zuhevi Chopy, resident of Ghukhuyi village of Zunheboto district.
The individual revealed that he had been involved in carrying out extortion activities in Kohima and adjoining areas, a press release stated.
Six cash receipt Government of the People’s Republic of Nagaland and two letter pad office of the Urban Town Commander NSCN (K) were said to have been found from his possession.
The apprehended cadre along with recovered items were said to have handed over to South Police Station Kohima for further investigation.
