Assam Rifles apprehends NSCN cadres

Dimapur, Nov. 23 (EMN): Basing on specific information regarding extortion by cadres of NSCN (KN) in local ground area, Kohima battalion of the Assam Rifles launched a search operation along with a police representative on November 21 and apprehended two individuals. According to security forces report, the accused individuals were identified as ‘ss’ Leacy of NSCN (KN) Neikepeo Angami (25), son of Rukhierielie Angami and resident of Nerhema village in Kohima district, and ‘ss’ Major Mejukhrei (48), son of Khriepu and resident of Dihoma village in Kohima district. Assam Rifles recovered four cash receipts of GPRN/NSCN, 120 cash receipts of GPRN, Ministry of Chaplee affairs, 97 work permits of NSCN (KN), three blank pads of Angami region letter heads, INR 3,430 in cash and a Hyundai Accent car bearing registration No NL 02 C 7989 (left near Phulbari). The report claimed that Neikepeo Angami has been carrying out extortions for NSCN (KN) and was appointed as Leacy in August 2018. It added that his team comprising four members have been carrying out extortion in Kohima for past one week. It also stated that Mejukhrei was expelled from active police service in 2013. Both individuals along with recovered items were handed over to the North Police Station, Kohima, for further investigation.
