Dimapur, March 21 (EMN): Kiphire battalion of the Assam Rifles organised an adoption programme of two children at Saramati View Modern School, Kiphire town, on March 20.
On the occasion, Sunita L Sangtam of Class III and daughter of Lithrizi of Horung village, and Avitsa Y of Class IV and son of Yangsemong of Singrep village, belonging to an economically weaker section were adopted by the unit. The unit contributed INR 13,300 each towards meeting academic expenses.
The programme was chaired by Colonel Veerandra Tiwari, commandant of 7 Assam Rifles. A lecture was also delivered to students of Class X in the school.
In a separate programme, Kohima battalion of the Assam Rifles organised a lecture on information technology for local youth of Phesama village in Kohima district on March 20.
The lecture covered importance of information technology and how it could best be used as an effective tool by the general public to enable transparency and efficiency in the state machinery. Altogether, 37 youth attended the lecture.
In yet another programme, Kiphire battalion of the Assam Rifles interacted with village guards of Mimi village on March 20.
The interaction, according to the Assam Rifles, was organised with an aim to encourage mutual understanding and to bring about peace in the region. Altogether, 30 village guards participated in the interaction.
