Mokokchung, May 10 (EMN):
Assam Police personnel and villagers of Rumkum basti (Assam) allegedly vandalised two farms under Yajang C jurisdiction in Mokokchung district on two separate occasions.

Chairman of Yajang C Village Council, Imtionen Aier told Eastern Mirror that a group of people from Rumkum basti (Assam) and Assam Police vandalised a farm hut and uprooted the tea plantation on April 25.

He said that the concerned village council had witnessed and verified the situation on the matter.

Aier further claimed that on May 5, people of Rumkum basti along with the Assam Police vandalised another farm and uprooted areca plantation in the area.

‘People coming from Assam harassed the farmers of Yajang C and warned them, saying that the land belongs to Assam Reserved Forest and not to do farming activities in that particular area, and vandalised the farm,’ the village chairman added.

Both incidents had been reported to the concerned authority for necessary action, but no action has been taken so far, he said.

‘We have asked for security patrolling along the border so that the village can do their daily farming activities in peace without any harassment from others, however, it is yet to be mobilised,’ he continued.

It may be mentioned that there is an IRB outpost set up under Yajang C village for security.
