DIPHU — Amid border tensions in Khanduli area of West Karbi Anglong district bordering Meghalaya, Karbi Students Association (KSA) Central committee and Jaintia Students’ Movement (JSM) held a joint meeting to resolve the impending tension along the inter-state border between Meghalaya and Assam.

At the meeting, ‘Students Committee for Peace Initiative’ was formed to maintain peaceful atmosphere in the bordering area between West Jaintia hill district and West Karbi Anglong district.

The JSM central body delegation was led by the president, Leningstar Rymbai and general secretary Roitre Dkhar along with the president of the Western region of JSM, Ribok Biam and adviser F. Suiam.

While briefing media persons about the outcome of the meeting the

JSM president, Rymbai briefed the media about the outcome of the programme.

Rymbai said that the newly formed committee will work together towards maintaining peace so that the communities of Karbis and Jaintias can live together.

By maintaining peace the people of both sides can do business freely as before. The Committee will also make a joint visit in the border areas for building up mutual trust among the communities living there, Rymbai said.

KSA president Mirjeng Kro also that KSA and JSM will work together towards bringing peace in the area.

It may be mentioned here that since October, 2022, tension has been prevailing in the bordering area of Khanduli in West Karbi Anglong.
