Assam Health minister reviews Covid care facilities at DMCH

Assam Health minister, Keshab Mahanta visited Diphu Medical College and Hospital to take stock of Covid care facilities in the medical college on Monday.

During his visit, accompanied by Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council CEM, Tuliram Ronghang, MP Horensing Bey, executive member KAAC in charge of health and family welfare, Khansing Rongpi, MLAs Bidyasing Engleng and Dorsing Ronghang and other EMs, Mahanta inspected the post-Covid care units and interacted with the doctors.

The minister inaugurated the new paediatric ICU rooms prepared by DMCH for a possible third wave of Covid-19 pandemic. The paediatric ICU rooms are set up for intensive paediatric care as it is said that the third wave will mostly affect children. There are already 24 ICU beds, Dr. M Chaudhury, HOD Anesthesia department informed.  

Mahanta informed journalists that 'there are already 19 ICU beds. 21 more have been inaugurated today. There are now altogether 40 ICU beds. Another 10 more ICU beds will be increased. That means all 50 ICU beds will be available'.

Regarding other issues like absence of super facilities in DMCH, the minister said, 'Yes, not only here but in other new medical colleges all facilities are not available, but steps have been taken to provide a full facility. Only after a green signal from the state Medical department, the conduct of HSLC examinations will depend on the present situation'.

On the announcement of new SOP, regarding relaxation for inter-district movement from June 16, the minister said after proper discussion the CM will announce it by today.

About the doctors (teaching faculties) problems faced in the Medical College with no sufficient rooms to stay, facing water logging in the drains system in DMCH the minister said, "All these problems will be solved in due course of time. A team has been constituted and they have come here twice to survey the drainage system to fix it". On the urgent need of CT scan, MRI and ultrasound facility the minister said the matter would be discussed for providing more facilities in the medical college. On the non-availability of medicines, he said it has been distributed equally in all government hospitals and health centres.
