Assam CM honours home guard on International Day against Drug Abuse

On the occasion of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Assam Chief Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswas Sarma formally appointment a home guard, Borsing Bey as a constable in Assam Police during a ceremonial programme at Assam secretariat Janata Bhawan at Dispur in Guwahati on Saturday.

Borsing Bey, a home guard affiliated with Dillai Police station of Karbi Anglong helped Karbi Anglong Police in intercepting a huge quantity of drugs — methamphetamine tablets — worth INR 12 crore at Dillai police check post from a Manipur-Guwahati bound bus night super on June 21, where three peddlers including two women from Tamil Nadu were arrested. The peddler had offered him a huge bribe to let them go. However, he refused. His action was praised by everyone and he was awarded for his dignity and selfless job.

In this regard Assam Police awarded him a cash reward of INR 1 lakh for his honest and selfless act while the authority of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council awarded him a cash reward of INR 1 lakh during the 70th Foundation Day of KAAC.

Borsing Bey received the appointment letter in presence of team Karbi Anglong, headed by CEM, Tuliram Ronghang along with Horensing Bey, MP, Dr. Numol Momin, Deputy Speaker of KAAC, MLAs Darsing Ronghang, Bidya Sing Engleng, Rupsing Teron, MACs Pobitro Rongpi and Pawan Kumar, who were felicitated with Karbi Pohos at the secretariat building in Guwahati.

Meanwhile, Deithor Police Station organised an awareness drive under the leadership of office in charge, Protap Senar in collaboration with Karbi Students Union (KSU) Duarbagori Head Branch on the theme “No to Drugs”. The people of the locality were sensitised on the adverse effect of drugs. The team appealed to the youths to avoid consumption of such substances in order to prevent its negative impact on society.
