Asian Games bronze medalist Sunil Singh felicitated by Assam Rifles
IMPHAL — Asian Games bronze medalist Salam Sunil Singh from Manipur was felicitated by Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) during a function at Sendra, Loktak Lake in Bishnupur district on October 17.
Salam Sunil won the bronze medal in the men’s canoe double 1000-metre event at the Asian Games, which were held in Hangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 8.
“The felicitation ceremony was an opportunity for Assam Rifles to recognise this great feat of Sunil and encourage excellence in sports,” said PRO Assam Rifles (South) in a press release. His coaching staff was also felicitated.
Sunil and his coaches appreciated Assam Rifles’ initiative to promote sports activities, particularly for providing a conducive environment for youth to excel in water sports in and around Loktak Lake, according to the release.
At the recently concluded Asian Games, 40 athletes from Manipur competed in 10 disciplines: aquatics (1), cycling (2), judo (1), rowing (2), weightlifting (2), wushu (3), canoeing and kayaking (7), Sepaktakraw (10), football (9), and hockey (3).
Nine athletes returned home with one gold, one silver, and seven bronze medals.
