Asha in Kohima district trained in paediatric care in Covid-19

Dimapur, Aug. 29 (EMN): Office of the chief medical officer (CMO), Kohima, along with the District Health Society, NHM, conducted training on paediatric care in Covid-19 for rural Accredited Social Health Activists (Asha) at Kohima village PHC on August 25 with Dr. Medotseio Whourie, MO of Kohima village PHC as the resource person.

An update from the CMO’s office stated that Dr. Medotseio presented a demonstration on how to handle Covid-19 related cases in children. He also briefed the Asha on paediatric care relating to the integrated management of neonatal and childhood illness (IMNCI). Besides, he also highlighted the major components on the preparedness and management of any sudden surge of Covid-19 care.

Report stated that Asha were also trained on the danger signs, surveillance, signs and symptoms of Covid-19 in paediatric age groups, prevailing myths conception of Covid-19 in children. Asha were also informed about the roles and responsibilities in the ward, colonies and community.

During the training, Dr. Medotseio also highlighted the importance of malaria slide test and pointed out the differences of SARI/ ILI reporting system as Asha are the community surveillance in which they are to identify SARI/ ILI cases in the village and report at block level. He further demonstrated the use of pulse oximeter and IR thermometer.

Training was attended by DPM, DMO, BPM and block Asha co-ordinators.

Similar training was conducted for urban Asha at Viswema CHC on August 26 with Dr. Akatoli Angto and Dr. Kekhrieneizo Peseyie, MOs of Chiephobozou CHC as the resource persons.

It stated that Dr. Kevilhoulie Meyase informed the Asha about the importance of malaria slide test and also pointed out the differences of SARI/ ILI reporting system.

Meanwhile, Dr. Asano Sophie presented a demonstration on how to handle Covid-19 related cases in children. She also briefed the Asha on paediatric care relating to approach of integrated management of neonatal and childhood illness (IMNCI).
